Roadmap
Plans change with what players report, and nothing here has a date. To suggest something, use the suggestion form on the issue tracker. Search the open issues first, and if someone has already suggested the same thing, add to their issue. Bugs go in a bug report.
These are being built or tested.
- Support for AMD Radeon RX 6000 and newer cards, through a second way of cleaning up and upscaling the picture that uses NVIDIA’s NRD denoiser and AMD’s FSR 3.1. It comes to Windows first, then Linux, and it needs testers with AMD cards.
- Less noise in bounced light in torch-lit caves and forests, by trying RTXDI 3.1 and ReSTIR PT with Ray Reconstruction (#48).
- WorldEdit selections and land claim boxes are drawn the wrong way up. A fix is written and waiting to be checked in the game (#22).
- The game can crash after it adds block textures mid-game. Fixes for two likely causes are being tested (#46).
- The game can crash as the HDR main menu hands over to a world. This is being investigated (#13).
- Far terrain on dedicated servers: the server sends the distant land from Algernon’s Terrain Sampler, so far terrain also works in multiplayer.
- Other open bug reports are fixed as they are diagnosed. These include items that vanish while you knap or clay form (#71), hot items on the ground (#72), and the cursor under Wayland on Linux (#69).
These are decided but not started.
- When path tracing stops, for example because the driver is too old for DLSS, VSPT will say so on screen and give the reason. At the moment the picture falls back to the game’s own without a message (#47).
- On Linux installs whose game folder can’t be written (Flatpak, AUR, Nix), setup will name the folder and give the steps to switch (#67).
- Lakes and rivers will get their climate’s colour, as the sea did in 0.2.4 along with the Sea blue setting (#18).
- Fog in heavy rain, haze and sea mist will be reworked. At the moment fog stops behind mountains, sea mist is too thick, and a low sun looks darker than the haze around it (#45).
- VSPT’s code will be made source available (#61).
- A lantern with shutters that close its sides to throw a beam, based on a player’s model (#37).
These are being considered.
- Frame generation on Linux, once DLSS or FSR frame generation can run there (#35).
- VSPT mouse input on Linux. It is Windows only for now.
- Distant land from LOD mods as another source for far terrain, starting with Ghost Chunks (#24).
- Support for Seamarks’ beacons and lighthouses (#58).
- Support for Chiseled World (#68) and Real Smoke (#70).
- Light from lamps that other mods let you carry, such as Salty’s Tool Belt, Modular Backpacks and Walking Stick’s gas lamp (#19). The same issue covers two more: your own body hiding your off-hand lantern when a combat swing puts it behind you, and a torch’s glow in mist.
- Lens distortion around the Spyglass’s view (#16).
- Less flicker in lamp light on grass and leaves, by choosing better neighbours to share light with (#49).
- Cheaper foliage for rays, with coarser plants in the distance (#50).
- Bounced light that catches up faster after you place a torch, open a door or break a wall (#51).
- Translations for the setup window and for “Borderless fullscreen” (#44).
- After AMD support first ships: FSR 4 upscaling, FSR frame generation 4.0 and Anti-Lag 2.
Running under Optimum is not planned for now, because Optimum builds its own copy of the game’s engine (#17).
Recently shipped
Section titled “Recently shipped”The full notes for every version are under Release notes and on the Mod DB.
- The first Linux release, with HDR on Wayland and the same setup as on Windows (#26, #34).
- Clouds are a separate pass that costs about half as much as before. With the game’s Clouds setting at Volumetric they are volumetric, and there are new Cloud quality and Cloud style settings.
- Creatures and players give off their own light, including the respawn glow (#63) and XSkills’ Luminiferous (#43).
- Salty’s Immersive Lanterns (#54) and Place On Slabs (#64) now work, and so does PlayerModelLib in large modpacks (#66).
- Fixed: the red flash on a creature you hit (#59), the crash after translocating with Extended debug info on (#65). In single player the world now pauses while shaders compile (#62).
- Smoother play: the game’s slowest frames are 14 to 42% shorter, and a Game frame rate setting replaces Max FPS and VSync.
- Rain, lightning, puddles and wakes no longer make shaders rebuild.
- Clouds out to the horizon, and World curvature, both off by default.
- A lit campfire lights its surroundings (#52), and a lantern on a sailboat’s mast is as bright as one on a wall (#53).
- Faster: compared with 0.2.3 on an RTX 5080, the GPU is 19 to 21% less busy and the game shows 14 to 24% more frames.
- VSPT mouse input, for smoother camera movement.
- New settings for Light colour, Shadows and Water steps, and for how strong the game’s whole-view effects are.
- Translations into 32 languages (#44).
- Setup works under MVL, and no longer breaks Optimum installs (#17).
