VSPT 0.2.6

The engine hooks changed: after updating, the main menu asks to patch the game again. Click Fix and restart.

Performance: the renderer is now built for only the features you have on, so anything switched off costs nothing. Against 0.2.3 on an RTX 5080, the GPU is 19 to 21% less busy, for 14 to 24% more frames. The ocean costs nothing inland, and the exposure meter is about four times cheaper. After a setting change, a new shader set is built in the background (usually a fraction of a second, up to about 20 seconds the first time on your machine); those frames show orange on the frame graphs.

Mouse input: VSPT reads your mouse directly and turns the path traced view between the game’s frames, for much smoother camera movement, in first person, third person and on mounts. VSPT mouse input is on the game’s Mouse tab, on by default. You may want a slightly lower sensitivity.

New settings: Light colour for torches, lanterns, oil lamps, candles and fire (1,000 to 6,500 K). Shadows, Smooth or Texelated. Water steps, a stepped water surface in the game’s pixel style. The game’s effects (bent space, rust, drunkenness, mushrooms, cold, damage) as strengths from 0 to 100%. A Reset on every section, a settings panel that fits at the main menu, and frame graphs while the settings are open. Alt+F3 cycles the graphs, the graphs with the charts, and off.

Exposure: the brightest auto exposure goes is 2 stops lower, with nights unchanged; fog no longer changes exposure; auto exposure adjusts in half a second to brighter and a second to darker (old defaults move to the new ones); .vspt exposure explains what it is doing.

Resonance Archive: the echo chamber fades into darkness with distance, exposure eases down near it, the luminescent Jonas lamps are half as bright, and the bronze plaques are readable, with a patina finish. Writing on plaques, signs and labels casts no shadow. Ocean foam moves with the waves.

VSPT is now in 32 languages (AI translations; corrections welcome). Setup works under launchers such as MVL, and says so instead of failing under Optimum.
